Bike2Basics is a Southampton based community bike project run by volunteers. It currently offers a Bike Doctor style bicycle repair service including safety checks, minor repairs and service work that take 20 minutes or under to do. No booking necessary but please wear a mask to help keep volunteers and visitors safe.

Repair Cafe takes place:

  • First Saturday of each month (except January) at the Freemantle United Reformed Church Hall, 257 Shirley Rd from 10.30am to 1pm.
  • St Denys on 3rd Sat of alternate months (Nov, Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep.) St Denys Community Centre (Priory Rd) from 10.30am-13.00pm
  • Check the home page for upcoming dates.

Bike2Basics can show you how to do your own repairs – you can watch or even undertake the repairs yourself under supervision. If a large repair is required, they will advise of additional work that needs to be undertaken. You can take this information to your local bicycle repair shop.

Bike2Basics is supported by Transition Southampton, which aims to raise awareness of peak oil, climate change and help to rebuild community resilience. Transition are always on the lookout for volunteers with bike repair skills, so if you are interested in taking part please contact them via their Facebook page or leave a message on their website.
