Hampshire County Council to commence work on new cycling and walking route along Hut Hill

Hampshire County Council is due to commence work to construct a three metre wide, two kilometre long off-road shared use cycleway/footway along Hut Hill. The scheme will link Chandler's Ford with Chilworth, providing improved facilities for those travelling between the settlements.

The route is made up of the southern section of Bournemouth Road and Winchester Road, close to Hampshire Corporate Business Park and passes over the M27 motorway to connect with the northern end of The Avenue.

The project will therefore deliver a key link to the SCN5 Northern Cycle Freeway currently being developed along the Avenue. Once complete, the Avenue and Hut Hill cycle schemes will provide a safe, coherent route for cyclists travelling between Southampton City Centre and Chandler's Ford.

The £1.14m scheme is being jointly developed and delivered by Hampshire County Council and Southampton City Council and is funded in part from the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund

Works will be taking place from Monday 18 November 2019 and are expected to be completed by Spring 2020.  The works will be carried out during off peak hours between 9:30 am to 4 pm under two-way traffic lights to minimise any disruption.
