Oxford Street Pedestrianisation
Bollards are now in operation to support the pedestrianisation of Southampton's Oxford Street between 11am and midnight.
The implementation comes after months of trial closures and pedestriansations carried out by Southampton City Council to address damage to the street's pavements as a result of vehicles parking and overrunning the paving.
Feedback showed the proposed plans to be welcomed by local residents and businesses, resulting in the now permanent pedestrianisation of the street during the day. Following the changes, the street is now open to vehicles until 11am to enable deliveries in the morning but closed until midnight to allow for the greater levels of footfall in the area during the afternoon and evening.
