Pompey in the Community launch campaign to raise £6000 for new wheelchair bikes

From October 12-14 Pompey in the Community will be cycling a disability wheelchair carrier bike all the way from Derby to Portsmouth. Covering 195 miles and using a bike that weighs more three times an average bike, they aim to raise a total of £6,000 to purchase two new wheelchair bikes for the disability cycling scheme Wheels for All.

Wheels for All has this year allowed over 200 people with multiple needs and disabilities to get active, get fit and experience the thrill of cycling.

Wheels for All has over 70 different bikes that are used on five days of the week, with hand cycles, tandems and specially adapted disability bikes ensuring that no matter what, there are no barriers for anyone to get on a bike.

There is a great opportunity for other local cyclists, clubs and commuters to join the challenge bike for its final leg into Portsmouth and help to showcase how inclusive cycling is before finishing at Fratton Park. If you would like to take part or show your support for Disability Cycling, please call 02392 728899 or email Matt.York@PompeyITC.org.uk for more information. The wheelchair carrier bikes taking part in the challenge are available to join in local club runs - if your cycling club would like to host these bikes and their riders and help raise awareness of the challenge, do get in contact.
