May is National Walking Month and, now the evenings are lighter for longer, it is the perfect time to get outside and get walking. Walking has a whole host of different health benefits that you can use to motivate you and your family to introduce it into your everyday life.

How about looking up #Try20 walking tips from national walking charity Living Streets to find ways to increase your daily step count?  Furthermore, to help you record your steps, Public Health England has just introduced the motivational Active 10 app which will guide you through the recommended 30 minutes of exercise per day for an adult.

For further ideas, local walking maps and groups, visit our walking pages all of which will help Hampshire to be active, every day.

Walk with Wheels Week, 21 – 25 May

The My Journey Walk with Wheels Week challenge encourages children at nurseries and pre-schools to travel actively with their families throughout this week whether that’s walking, running, hopping, scooting or cycling to school, all or part of the way.

The early years setting with the highest number of children travelling actively will win a Scooterpod to store their scooters safely during the day and everyone participating will receive a sticker. Five lucky families with the highest number of active travel journeys that week will also win a voucher for a family day out at Marwell Outdoor Activity Centre.

If you are taking part in Walk with Wheels Week feel free to share a picture of you travelling actively using #walkwithwheelsweek
