The Clean Air Project

Inspire young scientists. Empower young campaigners. Breathe cleaner air.

We’re inviting schools across Hampshire to join the Clean Air Project—a fun, hands-on way for pupils to learn about air pollution and take action for a healthier school journey.

Why take part?

  • Pupils become air quality investigators, using real monitoring equipment.
  • They create their own mini campaigns to share what they’ve learned.
  • It’s a great way to promote walking, cycling, and scooting to school.
  • Sessions are age-appropriate, engaging, and designed to fit your school’s needs.

Go further together

Schools can take part individually—or team up with nearby schools to make an even bigger impact.

👇 Collaborative Impact: United for Cleaner Air

Orchard Infant, Orchard Junior, and Noadswood Secondary Schools in Dibden Purlieu joined forces for an air quality workshop. What started with one school quickly grew into a joint campaign across all three.

Each school focused on different travel modes:

  • Infants & Juniors: Walking and scooting
  • Secondary: Walking and cycling

Together, they reached more families, inspired more change, and built a stronger sense of community.

✅ We provide:

  • A Plume Flow Meter, used to test air qualityPlume Flow Meter – to measure air quality on school routes
  • Data recording sheets – simple templates for pupils to log results
  • Two engaging workshops – delivered by Hampshire County Council
  • Downloadable campaign resources – posters, templates, and ideas to support your pupils’ clean air message

🏫 Your school will:

  • Have a staff member download the free app and sync it with a smartphone
  • Support pupils during air quality monitoring and campaign creation
  • Attend the workshops and help bring the project to life in your school
