Year 6 Transition Activities PR18

As Year 6 students prepare to transition to Year 7, it's important for them to plan their travel arrangements, including transport modes and routes. This period also allows them to discuss travel plans with peers and practice journeys with volunteer support. Additionally, this transition helps students build independence and encourages them to develop sustainable travel habits, such as walking, cycling, or using public transport.

Active Travel Shop/Enterprise PR27

An Active Travel Shop is a fantastic initiative on multiple levels. It supports and promotes active travel, provides pupils with the opportunity to organise and sell items, applies classroom maths skills in a real-world context, and raises funds to invest in active transport or environmental projects within the school.

Competitions Run in School PR8

Competitions are a great way to support initiatives like Walk to School Week/Month or as standalone activities. They can be organised by adults, JRSOs, the Eco Team, or the School Council to promote active travel. Keeping the competition simple and having students promote it can boost participation. Promote it though assemblies, newsletters, the website, noticeboards and social media and have involved pupils remind classes about it.

Information on Website PR13

A dedicated 'Travel to School' page on the school website is a powerful tool for promoting active and sustainable travel. It provides useful information to parents, outlines the school's aims, and supports your travel plan and/or Modeshift Accreditation by offering a central place for initiatives and evidence.

JTA, YTA, JRSO, Green Travel Reps in Place PR20

Involving pupils in your Travel Plan is crucial. Appointing Junior Travel Ambassadors, Youth Travel Ambassadors, Junior Road Safety Officers, or Green Travel Reps ensures successful implementation. These student Champions promote active and sustainable travel, easing your workload and inspiring their peers with fresh, innovative ideas.
