Cycling and Cycling Infrastructure
Walking and cycling are great options to get around North Whiteley, as well as easy and low cost ways to keep active and fit. The development is well served with wide pavements, footpaths and shared cycle footways connecting the north and south part of the development, as well as linking to Whiteley and Whiteley Shopping Centre.
There are now several shared paved paths, to be used by both pedestrians and cyclists, running along Whiteley Way, Curbridge Way and Bluebell Way.

There is also a shared path along Dapperling Road which will serve the new secondary school due to open September 2027.
Key Cycle Routes
There are key cycling routes throughout the development, which link to the train stations, Whiteley Shopping Centre, Solent Business Park and local schools.
- Botley train station is to the north of the development, and there is a shared cycle footway from the junction of Whiteley Way and Botley Road (A3051) all the way to the station. Currently there are roadworks at the junction of the A3051 and A334 as part of the Botley Bypass scheme which are due to be complete late Summer 2027. Follow this link for more details Botley Bypass | Transport and roads | Hampshire County Council
- Swanwick train station is to the south of the development, and can be reached by a shared cycle footway from the Yew Tree Drive to Botley Road.
- Solent Business Park can be accessed from either the Whiteley Way roundabout or the Parkway South roundabout, and also from a path that goes underneath Whiteley Way to the south of the business park, The section of shared cycle footway along Whiteley Way, from Bluebell Way to Rookery Avenue is currently not accessible, and requires cycling on the road for this stretch. These roadworks are due to be completed by autumn 2026. See here for any updates Planned Maintenance | Transport and roads | Hampshire County Council
Cycle Parking in the development
There is plenty of cycle storage throughout the infrastructure - at the three playgrounds in the development: Whiteley Way Playground in the north and Greenfinch Road Playground and Fielding Road Playground in the south; as well as at Whiteley Shopping Centre, Meadowside Leisure Centre and Whiteley Community Centre.

As a house-warming gift, we are offering residents of North Whiteley development a £100 Green Travel Boost which can be spent on cycle kit or towards a bike at a store of your choice, including these local bike stores below. See here for further details on the Green Travel Boost.

Family Cycle Sessions
As part of the North Whiteley Travel Plan, Hampshire County Council and the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly Sustrans) are running family cycle sessions to give all family members confidence to start cycling around the local area. The sessions include a bike check and an assessment of the level of ability of each cyclist and a led cycle ride to destinations of choice within the development.
The sessions are free as they are funded by the North Whiteley Consortium. Two sessions were held in 2025, and once dates for 2026 are confirmed, they will be promoted on this website, and on Whiteley Town Council Facebook page.
