Bus Service

The First Bus 28/28A service serves North Whiteley, Swanwick station and Fareham, and provides connections for onward travel to Southampton and Portsmouth via the X4 and X5 services.

For longer distance routes, the X4 and X5 offer direct links between Portsmouth and Southampton.  For Portsmouth change at Fareham Bus Station and for Southampton, get off at Cartright Road, and pick up the X5 at St Margarets roundabout on Warsash Road.  Please click on these links for the latest timetable and route map (also below)

Following the announcement of the UK Government's £3 bus fare cap, First Bus made changes to their fares from 1st January 2025.  They simplified their charging, and Single journeys cost £2.40 or £3, depending on the distance travelled. Adult short hop fares, where available, will be £2.40, and longer journeys will align with the UK Government’s £3 flat fare cap in England, with a maximum single fare of £3. Child fares have been simplified, at 50% less than adult single fares.

Train Connections

The North Whiteley development is located between two train stations – Botley and Swanwick.

 

Botley Station

Botley Station is to the northwest of the development, about 1.5 miles from the north part of the development, and about 2.5 miles from the south part of the development.  There is a separate shared cycle footway from the junction of Whiteley Way and Botley Road (A3051) going to the station.  Currently there are roadworks at the junction of the A3051 and A334 as part of the Botley Bypass scheme, however pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works, which are due to be complete late Summer 2027. Botley has direct connections Portsmouth to the west, and connections to Southampton to the east, via Eastleigh.  There are also direct trains from Botley to London Waterloo.

Swanwick Station

Swanwick Station is to the south of the development, about 2.5 miles from the south part of the development and about 3 miles from the north part of the development. There is a shared cycle footway off Yew Tree Drive, going through Gull Coppice which comes out on Botley Road (A3051) at Rookery Avenue.  This then continues to the station along Botley Road until Duncan Road, which then leads to the station. The station has excellent cycle storage and a car park with 80 parking spaces.

Swanwick has direct connections to Southampton, and connections to Portsmouth, via Fareham.
