Resources and ideas for outdoor activities
Active travel is great for your health and wellbeing, as well as being good for the environment. Below we've got some ideas to do with your children whilst you are out walking, scooting and wheeling.
Urban scavenger hunt
Keep your youngsters entertained on your daily outings by seeing what they can spot. Children should exercise at least 60 minutes a day, so why not print off this urban scavenger hunt, pick up a pencil and for a walk, scoot or cycle.
We've also got some lovely scavenger ideas for both primary and secondary aged children from our friend Kate at The Mindful Runner. She originally launched these activities as part of our Walktober 2020 challenge, and they can be followed any time of the year!
Living Streets walking activities
Our walking partner, Living Streets has put together 20 tips to help you and your family fit 20 minutes of walking into your day. #Try20 checklist.
October is International Walk to School Month when pupils around the globe celebrate the joys of walking and wheeling to school. We celebrate this with our very own Walktober, see here for details.
Woodland Trust Activities for Children and Families
The Woodland Trust has some great ideas to spark imaginations and inspire a love of the nature world. Their activities will help you explore woods with your kids and learn about nature. You can also enjoy them at home or in a green space near you. Find out more here.
Outdoor fun from Twinkl
Twinkl is an educational resource for teachers and parents, and is packed full of activities and ideas for all ages. In their outdoor section they have resources to help you be a leaf detective, build a pollinator for your garden or do a beach scavenger hunt in the summer. Go on, give it a go!
Healthier Families
Kids need to be physically active for 60 minutes a day, with 30 minutes of that activity taking place outside school. NHS Better Health has information about active hobbies and sports to get your family moving.
