Walktober
Let's get moving this Walktober!
Get moving for our wellbeing, our community and our planet.
Walktober is a challenge held each October to celebrate International Walk to School Month. School communities are asked to walk, wheel and use other active and sustainable travel as much as possible throughout the month. In Hampshire, Walktober has been run annually by Hampshire County Council's Travel Planning Team since 2016.
For Walktober 2024, over 130 schools and settings took part, meaning more than 39,000 pupils and nearly 5,000 staff, across Hampshire, had the opportunity to participate in the challenge .
The challenge
During Walktober 2024, pupils, staff and families were encouraged to get moving for Walktober!
By travelling actively and sustainably throughout October school communities helped make a change for our wellbeing, our community and our planet. Walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting, using Park and Stride or public transport reduces car use, benefits health and wellbeing, has a positive impact on the local community by reducing congestion and improves air quality.
