Let's get moving this Walktober!

Get moving for our wellbeing, our community and our planet.

Walktober is a challenge held each October to celebrate International Walk to School Month. School communities are asked to walk, wheel and use other active and sustainable travel as much as possible throughout the month. In Hampshire, Walktober has been run annually by Hampshire County Council's Travel Planning Team since 2016.

Walktober 2023 has seen 177 schools and settings sign up, meaning a staggering 54,763 pupils and 6,869 staff had the opportunity to take part in the challenge.

The challenge

For Walktober 2023 we encouraged all Hampshire schools and settings to g
et moving for Walktober!

By travelling actively and sustainably throughout October school communities helped make a change for our wellbeing, our community and our planet. Walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting, using Park and Stride or public transport reduces car use, benefits health and wellbeing, has a positive impact on the local community by reducing congestion and improves air quality.
