Bidbury Schools

The Travel Planning Team at Hampshire County Council has been working with Havant Borough Council and Bidbury Infant and Bidbury Junior School to launch Park and Stride sites and produce a bespoke map to support students with travelling actively to school*

*This project has been funded by Developer Contributions as part of the Harbour Place development (Harbour Place, Havant Road, Bedhampton, Havant, Hampshire, PO9 3LW).

What is a Park and Stride?

  • Park and Stride (P&S) is a simple initiative that involves driving part of the way to school, parking, then walking/wheeling or scooting the rest of the way.
  • It is particularly good for families that live a greater distance from the school.
  • It also helps families where a parent/carer has to go onto work/is coming direct from work.
  • P&S initiatives can help make the school environment less congested and safer.
  • It also enables families to become more active.
  • Everyone can join in with a Park and Stride!
  • If your child is older, then you can also use the P&S car parks as a Park and Drop for your child to walk the rest of the way independently or with a friend.

Please check out the routes and have a practice as it is your responsibility to make sure they are safe to and from school.

Where are the Park and Stride sites?

1. Havant Borough Council car park lower Bidbury Mead (entrance off Bidbury Lane by St Thomas’ Church).

Large site. FREE parking.

To Bidbury Schools approximately 10 minutes walk and 1000 steps.

2. Havant Borough Council car park upper Bidbury Mead (Bedhampton Bowls Club) (entrance off Bidbury Lane by St Thomas’ Church).

Good number of spaces available but may be busy when bowls match on – use car park above if busy. FREE parking.

To Bidbury Schools approximately 8 minutes walk and 750 steps.

3. Havant Rugby Club car park. Please note – there are limited spaces here and this area becomes congested. We would encourage use of the Bidbury Mead upper and lower car parks where there are lots of free spaces.

4. MUGA car park (next to Rugby Club).

Note: The area around the Havant Rugby Club car park and the MUGA car park becomes congested. We would encourage this area to be for families who have no other travel choice.

Walking Routes to Bidbury Schools

Harbour Place to Bidbury Schools walking route map

Approximately 1.06 Miles / 1715 meters / 2500 steps to Bidbury Schools. Around 25-30 minutes walking.

Join the footpath at Forty Acres Way.

This wide hard surfaced path leads you towards the A3(M) junction/Rusty Cutter roundabout. Here you will find a succession of signalised crossing points connected by short sections of path, please see the images below.

When you reach the final section at the base of Bedhampton Hill, you have a number of route options. You could:

  1. Continue to walk on the north side of Bedhampton Hill. Cross at the junction with Portsdown Hill Road and continue on Bedhampton Road. Cross Hulbert Road using the signalised crossing point. Cross the small side street – Lester Avenue and then walk up to either the path at the side of Brake House or use the path from North Street opposite Bedhampton Community Centre. Both paths take up to the Infant and Junior school.
  2. Cross the final section at the base of Bedhampton Hill leading on to Lower Road with extra care as there is not a signalised crossing point here (as shown in the images on the right). From here you can follow Lower Road onto Brookside Road and then right onto Bedhampton Road. Once at Bidbury Mead follow the onward route shown in the Park and Stride leaflet. (Note – although a quieter side street, there are sections on Lower Road and Brookside Road that have no pavement).
  3. Or at the end of Lower Road, turn right onto Bidbury Lane. When you see lower Bidbury Mead car park, you can follow the onward route options in the Park and Stride leaflet. (Note – although a quieter side street, there are sections on Lower Road and Bidbury Lane that have no pavement).
