Bidbury Schools

The Travel Planning Team at Hampshire County Council has been working with Havant Borough Council and Bidbury Infant and Bidbury Junior School to launch Park and Stride sites and produce a bespoke map to support students with travelling actively to school*

*This project has been funded by Developer Contributions as part of the Harbour Place development (Harbour Place, Havant Road, Bedhampton, Havant, Hampshire, PO9 3LW).

What is a Park and Stride?

  • Park and Stride (P&S) is a simple initiative that involves driving part of the way to school, parking, then walking/wheeling or scooting the rest of the way.
  • It is particularly good for families that live a greater distance from the school.
  • It also helps families where a parent/carer has to go onto work/is coming direct from work.
  • P&S initiatives can help make the school environment less congested and safer.
  • It also enables families to become more active.
  • Everyone can join in with a Park and Stride!
  • If your child is older, then you can also use the P&S car parks as a Park and Drop for your child to walk the rest of the way independently or with a friend.

Please check out the routes and have a practice as it is your responsibility to make sure they are safe to and from school.

Where are the Park and Stride sites?

1. Havant Borough Council car park lower Bidbury Mead (entrance off Bidbury Lane by St Thomas’ Church).

Large site. FREE parking.

To Bidbury Schools approximately 10 minutes walk and 1000 steps.

2. Havant Borough Council car park upper Bidbury Mead (Bedhampton Bowls Club) (entrance off Bidbury Lane by St Thomas’ Church).

Good number of spaces available but may be busy when bowls match on – use car park above if busy. FREE parking.

To Bidbury Schools approximately 8 minutes walk and 750 steps.

3. Havant Rugby Club car park. Please note – there are limited spaces here and this area becomes congested. We would encourage use of the Bidbury Mead upper and lower car parks where there are lots of free spaces.

4. MUGA car park (next to Rugby Club). Coming soon.

Note: The Havant Rugby Club car park and the MUGA car park have limited spaces and this area becomes congested. We would encourage this area to be for families who have no other travel choice.

To celebrate the launch, the Travel Planning Team ran an active travel Challenge Card. Bidbury Infant and Junior school pupils were invited to record how they travelled to school during the week commencing 3rd October 2022. The more active the form of travel, the greater number of points that were earned. At the end of the week, pupils exchanged their cards for raffle tickets for a chance of winning a fantastic prize!

Temporary Walking Route to Bidbury Schools

Harbour Place to Bidbury Schools walking route map

Temporary routes: Approximately 1.59 Miles / 2559 meters / 3568 steps to Bidbury Schools

Until the improvement works at the Rusty Cutter Roundabout have been delivered, we have suggested the alternative route to Bidbury Infant and Junior Schools:

Starting on Havant Road (A2030) head east and join Bedhampton Hill. Follow this and turn north onto Glebe Park Avenue. Follow this road until it joins with Portsdown Hill Road. Turn east and follow the pathway (crosses the A3(M) to the roundabout/junction with Bedhampton Road. Carefully cross Portsdown Hill Road and Maylands Road and Continue on Bedhampton Road. Cross Hulbert Road using the signalised crossing point. Cross the small side street – Lester Avenue and then walk up to either the path at the side of Brake House or use the path from North Street opposite Bedhampton Community Centre. Both paths take up to the Infant and Junior school.
