Active Travel Ambassador
The Active Travel Ambassador (ATA) scheme from Modeshift, aims to empower secondary school pupils to develop and deliver active travel activities, initiatives and campaigns with the support of school staff and local authority travel plan advisers.
Modeshift has developed a series of resources to help schools deliver the programme across four sessions and support pupils in designing their own campaign focussed on active travel or road safety, with an opportunity for them to present their ideas to the school community. The resources include PowerPoint slides (including notes), lesson plans and worksheets, which can all be adapted where necessary.
Introductory resources
Session 1 – Welcome to the Active Travel Ambassadors Programme
- Session 1 PowerPoint
- Session 1 Lesson Plan
- Travel Issue Interview Worksheet
- Site Audit Worksheet
- Member of school staff to complete a Hands up Survey via the Modeshift STARS system. See guidance document.
Session 2 – Planning and Promoting your Campaign
Session 3 – Presentation Skills
Session 4 – Project Evaluation
Participating schools can add initiatives completed throughout the ATA programme to Modeshift STARS, as this will help schools work towards accreditation. Additionally, it is advised that schools undertake their annual Hands-up Survey for the current academic year to help inform the focus of the campaign.
Please share your ATA campaigns via your school social media channels, tagging #TeamModeshift and #myjourneyhampshire.
